“If more of us valued food and
cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” –
JRR Tolkien
Wine tasting this Sunday at 6 p.m. Thirteen different
reds.
Beer Club t-shirts are in. Time
to drink some good beer. Should have a nice surprise
tomorrow.
Flying Dog Beers on tap and in
bottles
Diane has ordered the t-shirts. Some lucky and
determined people will some be sporting them.
The Baristas Beer Club T-Shirt is
moving at our usual glacial pace but we've been bumped by our
artist in residence, Sami Ternyik. As usual, she's come up with a
work of genius.
Hold my beer and watch
this:
Sixteen of Barista's esteened testers filed reports on the
flight of 10 dry white wines. Here's what we liked:
Fifth place: Kunde Estate Grown Chardonnay 2007, Sonoma
County, California; $17.99.
Fourth place: Spier Sauvignon Blanc Private Collection
2006, Stellenbosch, South Africa; $19.99 (It's rare for us to
like South African wines.)
Third place: Excelsior Chardonnay 2009, South Africa;
$9.99 (What? A second South African wine at the same
tasting?)
Second place: Courtney Benham Gewürztraminer 2008,
Mendocino County, California; $8.99, the cheapest wine of this
flight. (Maybe we should seek more of these?)
First place: Pat & Hall Chardonnay, Napa Valley,
California; $39.99; the most expensive wine of this flight.
(Overwhelmingly the favorite; but how do we explain the second
place wine at less than a quarter of this price?)
Pat Wobig pegged Tester-of-the-Month, and called for
Chardonnays on Sunday, August 1st.
